AGENDA

9:00 - 9:30 - Registration and coffee

9:30 - 9:45 - Introduction

9:45 - 10:15  - Working with your architect/designer, planning conditions and building regulations

How much thought have you paid to the role of your Architect? Architects are a critical part of many building projects but, they are not solely responsible for this stage in your build. They have a role, but so do you. This session will discuss how active you need to be during design, planning and building regulations.

10:15 - 10:45  - Energy performance measures and renewable technologies

A hot topic at the moment and something many are trying to incorporate into their projects, but how complex can it be? This session will help you to understand the importance of Uvalues, insulation measures and airtightness as an important element of the design.

10:45 - 11:15 - Coffee break

11:15 - 12:00 - What construction method to use

Many assume that they are restricted to a single type of construction method, which is often favoured by their builder, despite their being a number of choices out there. This session discusses the advantages and suitability of the different construction methods; from Masonry Construction to Timber Frame and ICF.

12:00 - 12:45 - Creating a schedule of works, costing the works and going out to tender

A pivotal part of any project, the schedule of works, costing and tender process needs to be carried out correctly, and the accuracy of the quotes will only be as good as the information that you create. This session covers how to get it right.

12:45 - 1:00 - Q&A

1:00 - 2:00 - Lunch

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

2:00 - 2:45 - Deciding on and working with contractors

No two builders are the same, we have all heard the horror stories on this topic! Deciding on who you work with is a critical part of your project and can ultimately define its success as well as your stress levels and happiness with the end result. This task is a minefield so this session will provide guidance on how you can define who is right for you and your project.

2:45 - 3:30  - Site set up, management and organising, CDM – health and safety obligations

How much are you responsible for on your site? If you are managing the project then you are in charge and the site will only run well if the person in charge understands the organisation and disciplines required. This session discusses what you need to know, what regulations you need to adhere to and what you are responsible for.

3:30 - 4:00 - VAT

The topic of VAT is often received with dread, with many fearing its complexity and associating it with a world of effort and pain. Managing VAT on your project really isn't as complicated as you might think and this session guides you through the entire process including, what sites are VAT exempt, what can be offset against the reclaim scheme.

4:00 - 4:30 -  Any final questions and event summary

4:30 - Event Ends
